Life has a different definition for free well, and the sooner we learn about it, the better off we are. For simplification sake, let’s compare life to a sea, and our own lives in it as ships traversing that sea. Like all sea, it is full of forces that act on ships, like winds currents, whirlpools, etc. Any captain worth his salt knows that successful navigation means to steer in a way that takes advantages of these forces, not to oppose them. The captain always has his eyes on his final destination, but he seldom sails towards it in a straight line.
In our ordinary lives, we seldom try to navigate; we want to reach our dreams in straight lines. That does not happen, so we get frustrated; but miraculously when we look back, we can see that we have, eventually, fulfilled our dreams. It is just never happen in the way we thought it would happen. And most of the time, we missed the “crossing the finish line” moment because it happened without any fanfare. Our dreams have materialized and we didn’t even notice.
Free well can be effective if we flow with the flow of life. Instead of resisting what is happening to us now, as if it is not part of the plot, let’s merge with it as it is everything we wished for. Be like a captain setting your destination by declaring your intention clear and loud, then accept everything that comes after that as part of the fulfillment of your intention. So if you are very busy working on reaching your destination, and something, or someone, start to distract you from that work, don’t get annoyed and don’t shut the door in front of this distraction. Your rational mind is telling you that it is your work which will get you to where you want, but life is showing you where the wind, which will carry you to your destination, is blowing. Follow life.
I have talked before about the keys to our dream and how they never look like something that fits nicely into a proper shaped lock; it could be anything but. The same goes for journeys. Life, through its mischievous design, is adamant to break our resistance until we are fluid enough to flow with it freely. Kinks and twists on the road are meant to teach us something that will, ultimately, make our destination more enjoyable once we reach it.
Happy journeying.
